The castle (outside) used for Harry Potter movies?
markwillstar asked:
Does anyone know if a real castle was used for those shots?
the reason i ask, is because my parents recently visited Scottland and one of the pictures they showed me was of the railroad bridge used in the movies for the a Hogwarts Express train shots (the bridge they cross).
If its real, where is it?

Hogwarts exteriors are CGI.
No, they don’t use a real castle. They actually use Oxford University for a lot of the scenes.
EDIT: In response to Mustafa M’s answer, J.K. Rowling has confirmed that Hogwarts is in Scotland.
No, I don’t think it was a real castle. Like the Great Hall was part of some library.
The castle is in London and not in Scottland and its a real castle.
I think those who answered before me are correct. I also think they have a miniature model of a castle surrounded by land the lake and all that. They use it to film wide field-like shots of the outside of Hogwarts.
