    The exterior is CGI, and the interior is a combination of sets and real-life castle interiors.

    Not sure, but it looks like a set to me, at least from the inside.

    Alnwick Castle has been used as a stand in for the exterior and interior of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films (though the wide angle images are computer generated).
    I think there are also other castles and cathedral type places they film at also.
