Do you know of any Plot-Holes in Harry Potter?
♥ ədɐuS ɟo ɹəʇɹoddnS ♥ (SOS) asked:
I found one whilst reading it last night [it migt not be one, i may just be stupid] but Hermione says that if a Muggle were to find Hogwarts, they would find a castle in ruins.. but surely they’d see the people outside on the grounds? Wouldn’t it be more than a little suspicious? o_O
Do you know of any other Plot-Holes?

Yes it would be suspicious. You are right. Other plot holes- no!
Um, One I have particularly been bothered by, is why on earth Peter was put in Gryffindor…
The only other one that I see is that there is like no registration or application for going to Hogwarts, its simply just a letter saying that you are going… (perhaps I did not read well enough)
at the end of book 4 harry rides the “horse-less” carriages out of hogwarts. at the end of book 4 he has already seen cedric die so he should have seen the thestrals but he didn’t! he didn’t see them until book 5!
hey, you’ve got a point there!
But, most of the time everyone is in class, with none outside.
On page 95, it states that Nearly Headless Nick “took several deep breaths, and then said, in a far calmer tone, ‘So what’s bothering you?’” However, on page 506 of GOF, Myrtle says that ghosts do not breathe: “When I can’t …when I haven’t…not for ages…”
lupin said that from the moment he met harry on the train, he knew who he was because of his eyes (lily’s eyes), but when harry and the gang first saw lupin, he was pretending to sleep. if he was ’sleeping’, his eyes were closed, so how did he see harry’s eyes? The snake winks at Harry. Snakes have no eyelids.
When Hagrid comes to take Harry to Hogwarts, they leave on the boat the Dursley’s took to get to the rock. How did the Dursley’s get off?
Harry’s letter states they can bring 1 owl, 1 cat, or 1 toad. Ron brings Scabbers.
Nearly Headless Nick says that he hasn’t eaten in “nearly four hundred years”; but in the second book, Harry goes to Nick’s 500th Deathday Party, meaning that Nearly Headless Nick has been dead for 500 years, not 400.
Fred says: “We haven’t won [the Quidditch Cup] since Charlie left…” However, according to JKR, Charlie is three years older than Percy (who is in his 5th year at the time), so Charlie should still have been in Hogwarts the year before. This makes Fred’s statement “We haven’t won since last year!”
On pages 274-275 of the hardback American edition of Sorcerer’s Stone, the trio, who are coming from Gryffindor Tower, go up two flights of stairs to get to the third floor. Gryffindor Tower is on the 7th floor, so they should have gone down, not up.
After so many people die, why does he not use the Time-Turner to go back and save them like he did with Sirius?
